The seat of my students
Upon this gentle evening, my mind rests upon the words of a lovely guitar student who said that it “made her heart hurt”, when I offered her lessons at a discounted price. I didn’t understand until she said, “you don’t know your value…”
I remember when a cousin gave me a beaten up, broken guitar when I was 15, we didn’t have the money for lessons, but somehow my mom managed it. Once a week, I’d trot down to the music store, wild with excitement about spending time with my teacher. It made such a huge difference in my life, in who and how I am. That’s why I offered a “discount” because, I see the difference lessons make in my students lives. I believe that I do know my value, and that underneath it all, that I also know theirs.
